Andrew Chalfen

Andrew Chalfen’s art is of worlds inspired by aerial views, flyover zones, cartography, architectural renderings and ornament, ripples, radiances, fractal blooms, and other natural and man-made patterns. Though often overtly psychedelic and slightly obsessive in nature, his works also function as meditations, both in their creation process and in their appreciation. Drawings from this collection first began appearing in 2009 after the artist had surgery on a finger of his guitar fretting hand. Unable to play guitar for months, Chalfen found that drawing these intricate patterns fulfilled much of his ever-present need to be creative, to have the forward momentum and satisfaction of making art.
